My Promise to You
You’re struggling. That’s not new.
Just so you know, I’m struggling too.
It is hard for me to see you in so much pain. I have done everything I know to help ease your pain. To help you find a path to happiness. What I have finally come to realize is that I love you, but I can’t heal you. Finding healing and happiness is your trip to take.
Years ago we made a pinky swear promise to each other. I promised to never give up looking for ways to help you, and you promised to try the ideas and therapies I found. I believe that we both did our best to uphold our promise. I think that it is time for an update.
My promise to you?
I promise that I will always be by your side through triumph and struggle, that you will not journey alone.
I promise that you can always expect me to show up, to be there for you.
I promise to give you the gift of my time, even as I set and hold you to some boundaries.
I promise to protect you, as I continue to be the fierce mama bear that I am.
I promise to set you up for success and continue to guide you in becoming as independent as possible.
I promise to guide you and help you seek solutions to the problems you face.
I promise to respect your uniqueness.
I promise to listen and soothe you, as long as our conversation is respectful.
I promise to teach you by example.
I promise to pray for you and continue to remind you that you are a gift from God. I am grateful to God for entrusting me with your care.
I promise to always try my best but know that I will sometimes fail.
I promise to be patient with you. Be patient with me too.
I promise that I will never abandon you.
I promise to always show you kindness, compassion and love.
I promise to work on myself so that I can be the best version of me for you and offer healthy support to you.
You need to know that you are loved. Allow yourself to feel it. Be sure to show yourself some love.
You need to know that your life has purpose. Give yourself time to learn more about it. Most of us are trying to figure out the same thing.
You have a heart for others and have touched more lives than you will ever know.
Your life has value. It is meaningful. You are strong enough to live it.
And no, I am not just saying all these things because I am your mom, so I am supposed to! I am saying these things to you because they are absolutely true.
“If I could give you only one thing in life, I would give you the ability to see yourself through my eyes, only then would you realize how very special you are.” - Author Unknown
